Nitrocellulose for the production of propellants

This nitrocellulose is a basic raw material for the production of smokeless powders and other propellants not only for the defence industry, but also for use in the manufacture of hunting, sporting and other civilian ammunition.

Basic types of nitrocellulose for the production of propellants

The production program of Synthesia Nitrocellulose, a.s. includes a complete range of nitrocellulose for the production of propellants in accordance with US MIL standards (MIL-DTL-244C).

Thanks to our many years of experience and the flexibility of our production, we are also able to adapt certain parameters of nitrocellulose and laboratory methods to the requirements of European standards.

In addition, we can also adapt a number of nitrocellulose quality parameters to individual customer requirements. For this reason, the specifications of the most commonly manufactured types listed on this website should be considered only as examples.

Quality parameters

  • We use the Höppler method or the ball method according to US MIL-DTL-244C to determine the viscosity of our nitrocellulose.
  • The basic method for determining the stability of nitrocellulose is the Bergmann-Junk test at a temperature of 132°C. The use of other methods depends on individual agreement.
  • We can change a number of other quality parameters (nitrogen content, pulping, solubility, viscosity, water content, etc.) according to individual customer requirements.
  • Nitrocellulose is a hazardous substance. To limit its hazardous properties, it is necessary (in accordance with international regulations) to maintain a certain level of moisture in the material. Nitrocellulose must therefore be kept moist during transport and storage (the moisture content must not fall below 25%).
  • Nitrocellulose for the production of propellants manufactured by Synthesia Nitrocellulose is moistened with water.

Moistening

The moisture content is around 30%, but can be adjusted to individual customer requirements.
